It is a 5.17-metre (17.0 ft) marble statue of a standing male nude. The statue represents the Biblical hero David, a favoured subject in the art of Florence.
Proclus is the patron saint of the Italian city of Bologna. He was a Roman military leader and a Christian. Proclus was eventually martyred for his beliefs. The marble statue is situated in the cathedral of San Domenico, Bologna on the tomb of St Dominic. Proclus once held a metal lance in his clenched right hand, sadly the lance is now lost.
